Bookings have trebled on Southwest Airlines after news emerged overnight that passengers faced the very real possibility of being sucked off.

But as news came through of a mid–air engine explosion causing a window to break, the surge in advanced bookings began to fall away.

Prospective air passenger, Peter Thape was quick to initially book a seat with the airline, neatly choosing the 35 minute flight from Boston to JFK.

‘I’m having a real problem getting my money back, since I cancelled this morning,’ complained Mr Thape.

‘I’ve been married quite a long time,’ Thape added.
