Grammatical experts are at loggerheads as the great ‘Comma’ debate carries on, long after the fly by.
Head of English Language at Oxford University, Prof. Peter Thape believes that the banner should have read…White lives matter, Burnley as opposed to…White lives matter Burnley.
But other academics disagree, with some asking for a semi-colon before the word Burnley, and many others pointing to the unnecessary use of capital letters.
‘If they’d have written…White lives matter to those of us who reside in Burnley then they could have avoided any punctuation at all,’ said Thape.
‘Well, apart from the final full stop,’ joked Thape.
