Supermarkets have accepted that their ‘easy to peel’ tangerines have to actually be peelable to be given that name.
Supermarkets have additionally denied that they place a layer of strong glue between the peel and the fruit to make it more difficult to take off. Supermarket manager, Peter Thape has admitted that they put an easy peelers label on tangerines when they’ve got loads of them piled up in the back of the store.
‘From next Monday, all the tangerine labels will say massively difficult to peel, unless you get dead lucky, tangerines,’ said Thape.
‘You can get an odd tangerine where the peel more or less drops off; but that’s one that’s been genetically modified with a choux bun,’ admitted Thape.
