As expected, England’s libraries were absolutely swamped yesterday on reopening, giving way to real fears that lockdown will be imposed again.
The government had been criticised for opening libraries and pubs on the same day, forcing many people to choose between art and vomit down their shirts.
Peter Thape was first in the queue at his local library, and was one of four people who enjoyed a day of drinking in the written culture of his peers.
‘There were two people to every table in the library,’ said Thape.
‘Never seen it so busy,’ he added.
