Leading shoplifters believe that they are the forgotten victims in the steady stream of High Street shop closures.
HMV, who sold products that purposefully fitted neatly into the pocket, are the latest in a number of failed companies that have decimated the shoplifting industry.
The closure of Woolworths left the shoplifting business on its knees, with local thief Peter Thape admitting that he needed to retrain in house burglary at the time.
‘It’s not easy to learn new skills after specialising for so long,’ said Thape.
‘The Government is offering retraining in credit card cloning, but the courses are often full,’ added Thape.
