A 71 week old chicken is looking forward to a long and comfortable retirement, after overhearing the farmer say that all the chickens will be leaving the farm at 72 weeks.
Following a highly successful career as a leading egg layer, chicken Murial Hislop has told the rest of the flock about the imminent finish date. Although the farmer has not spoken of a leaving party, many of the chickens have started to send round leaving cards, and little collection tubs. Hislop has applied to the University of the Third Age, and is considering living in a small garden in the country.
‘It’s been a little overcrowded here, but the farmer’s doing the right thing, letting us 72 weekers go,’ said Hislop.
‘He’s never said, but I’m assuming he’s been paying our pension contributions?’ asked Hislop.
