Guards already on strike on 1st steam train to run in 50 years

The much heralded ‘Tornado’ steam engine, that will run for three days only between Appleby and Skipton, has been hit by industrial action.

Guards have decided to call a 48-hour strike after noticing that people were opening and closing their own doors on the carriages. Train guard, Peter Thape was arguing with the driver about which of them was supposed to be opening the doors, when he saw the passengers managing to do it, all by themselves.

‘I shall tell the union rep, but we’ll be out for 48 hours ‘till this is sorted out,’ said Thape.

‘I’ve spoken to the lads at Southern. They said I’m doing the right thing,’ added Thape.
