Peter Thape, from Hyde in Greater Manchester was apprehended after another lift passenger was able to secretly text a message to the police during the alleged conversation.
Murial Hislop (34) has been commended by the police for covertly informing the authorities during the harrowing incident itself. Police were quickly on site to arrest Thape as the doors to the lift opened on the ground floor.
‘We were all staring at the descending numbers, when he just suddenly said…What a lovely day,’ said a troubled Hislop.
‘We stared harder than ever at the lift door; I could see three people sweating furiously,’ added Hislop.
