Royal family forgot to celebrate 100 years since being German

The public are wondering when celebrations will begin to mark the 100 year anniversary since the Royal family simply changed their name to Windsor from Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.

German King of England, George V changed the family name in 1917, choosing to rename our Royal family after the castle he happened to be living in at the time.

Peter Thape from Barnsley arranged a street party to celebrate the historic centenary, which celebrated the close bond between our two countries.

‘We had German flags, pictures of great German leaders, music from Wagner – hardly anyone came,’ said Thape.

‘I found the whole thing really embarrassing; had to change my name,’ added Peter Barnsley.
