A woman who is desperate to leave her job has realised that she does not have a standard sized, plain, cardboard box in which to put her possessions.
She has also noticed that she does not have a plant or a large framed photo on her desk, and fears that people will not acknowledge her leaving if she fails to walk through the office without such a trinket-filled box.
Murial Hislop has hated work, and herself for quite a long time, but knows that leaving without carrying such a box will contravene office protocol.
‘If you’re not carrying a box then how can people promise to keep in touch with you,’ said Hislop.
‘I’ll probably stay on for a while, save up for a box,’ added Hislop.
