The new amateur football season may have to put back 12 months after local councils called off all their pitches due to waterlogging.
Groundsmen were quick to point to nearly 1 mm of rain falling over the weekend which has left the pitches unplayable until April at the earliest.
Local parent, Peter Thape waited nervously by his phone this morning until the WhatsApp group confirmed that Tuesday’s training was being moved to an astro turf after the home pitch was deemed unplayable until 2026 at the earliest.
‘After this lovely summer we were hoping little Bobby would get a game in before Christmas,’ joked Mr. Thape.
‘We’ve just had the new fixtures, and it’s nine games a week from mid-April to May,’ added Thape.
