Crystal Palace fan, Mathew Simmons to play in Soccer Aid

Mathew Simmons will line up for England against his old foe, Eric Cantona in next month’s Soccer Aid match.

Simmons, who recently unveiled a 200ft bronze statue of himself outside Selhurst Park, has been on the sportsman’s after-dinner speaking circuit since the 1995 altercation.

Simmons and Cantona eventually made their peace, with Simmons being best man at Cantona’s wedding, and also teaching the Frenchman the intricacies of British Sign Language.

‘Actually, I just work in a factory, putting buttons into bags,’ admitted Simmons.

‘At 10.15 a klaxon sounds that means I’ve got till 10.20 to do a shit,’ added Simmons.
