Those people who have mocked football in recent times have been warmed by the sight of fans of all clubs coming together to help Manchester City buy enough players for their team.
Fans around the country quickly mobilised yesterday when the news broke that City were unable to field their full allocation of substitutes for the game against Burnley.
Manchester United fan, Peter Thape immediately set up a JustGiving page, and then generously missed out on his own team’s match to take a collection bucket around the local pubs in Trafford.
‘We’ve got a car boot and a massive fun run planned for this Sunday,’ said Thape.
‘People have dug deep. We can only hope City get through this crisis,’ added Thape.
